Charlie Palmer at the Joule

Texas is the nation’s top producer of wind energy, leading Focus Lighting to incorporate a natural yet mechanical theme into the restaurant lighting for Charlie Palmer’s Steakhouse at the Joule Hotel. Custom fixtures protrude from the ceiling and rest at angles which allow slivers of light to penetrate the dining space. The lazily spinning turbines, in their glowing platinum ceiling coves, impart a sense of graceful tranquility to the dining room.

The adjacent walls feature walnut vertical screens lined in amber-toned silk, representing wind vent structures. Original art works on each wall complement the modern, space-like designs. Depicting historical scenes relating to wind (like Don Quixote and Mary Poppins), the images ground the concept and evoke a sense of nostalgia amidst this contemporary space. LED striplights and accents are additionally used to highlight the interesting features of the space, such as the glowing boxes at the back bar or the etched glass walls, bringing layers of light to the elegant dining atmosphere.
