Knoll Miami
Certified LEED Silver, the Miami office is a 17th floor, glass enclosed, high-rise overlooking Biscayne Bay. Given the amount of sunlight, it is integral to make Knoll’s furniture and textile products stand out against potential wash-out. Two types of shades are installed at the windows to control the outside light. Metal halide accent lights are used to highlight the display furniture. In the work areas, however, metal halides would be too intense to work under and would glare on the computer screens, so fluorescent pendants are installed below the ducts and each employee has an individual task light. A careful balance of overhead lights and task lights level the sunlight to create a bright work surface without making the environment harsh and straining the eyes of the employees. Though each person is provided a task light, the overall space maintains about 20fc (to balance the sunlight).
