The Babbio Center at Steven’s Institute of Technology

Located directly across the Hudson River from midtown Manhattan on the New Jersey Palisades, this 90,000 square foot, state-of-the-art technology learning center is a sparkling presence that also adheres to “green building” design guidelines.

The glazed 4-story atrium was designed to appear jewel-like from across the river. Metal halide accent lighting streak the truss work of the window wall and illuminate a large-scale suspended mobile sculpture. The blue wall of the lecture hall can be seen thorough the glazing.

Energy saving ballasts, step down transformers, dimming, and building-wide control systems are used throughout the facility. On the first level, metal halide wall washers with blue color filters highlight the walls of the first floor circular lecture hall. In the circulation areas views are framed and terminated using low wattage metal halide accents lights. Capping the exterior view, metal halide floodlights with blue color filters light up on the 8-foot wide cornice that surrounds the building.

The new technology center is a stunning jewel and is sure to stand out, even against its sister skyline across the river.
