The Tourneau flagship store in Las Vegas brings a new “excitement” to an otherwise traditional retail space. The idea was to create a dynamic and surprising space where the product is king. Spherical and circular design elements mark a central origin point from which the rest of the store is configured. A dome shaped half-sphere hovers over the central area and the product cases below. The inside face of the dome transforms into a canvas of projections and color illumination for product graphics and themed shows. Above the dome, a circular array of overlapping compounding curves (also referred to as “onion skins”), embraces the space and provides yet another blank canvas for illumination.
Contrasting colors are used to enhance and define the dome and curved surfaces. The inside face of the dome is illuminated with earth tones and softer colors which represent the sunrise and sunset of a warm summer day. Above the dome, the “skins” create a background illuminated with intense colors such as blue, red, and magenta.
A major consideration was to bring a complementary light closer to the patron so that the watches were accentuated when removed from the display case. The solution was to create a glowing table lamp with spotlights hidden inside. Six MR-16’s are aimed to accent the product on the display counters, and low voltage lights provide a warm inviting glow to the lampshades. The table lamps are a solution, which incorporates both form and function.
