As a part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Focus Lighting has developed a concept for the Wukesong Arena inspired by a significant symbol in Chinese culture, the lotus flower. Surrounded by a pool, vertical ribbons of undulating, perforated metal envelop the large glass structure, extending from the top of the building, to below the surface of the water. Each ribbon is lit along its entire length with color changing LEDs, creating a delicate, shimmering layer of color, upon which the entire building appears to float.
