Collaboration
We work closely with the Owner, the Architect and other design professionals on both a conceptual and detailed level, insuring the success of each area individually and the project as a whole.
Budget
We have a proven track record of accurately estimating a project’s lighting equipment cost. We understand cost is an important factor in an Owner’s decision making process and we develop the lighting budget and push for budget approval at every step to minimize or eliminate value-engineering later on.
Sustainable Design
We review every design for energy reduction possibilities and are on a constant search for new lighting technologies to make our projects more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Experimentation
We develop and refine many of our lighting ideas through small and large scale mockups. We find this approach yields more creative designs and it helps us and the rest of the design team visualize more accurately how the final lighting will look.
Detailed Documentation
We produce high quality documentation that is fully coordinated with the other members of the design team. We do this to reduce construction costs and to guarantee a well-integrated lighting design.
Coordination
We take a proactive approach during construction to ensure that what’s being built and installed in the field is in keeping with the intent of the lighting design.

Design Conceptualization
We are often brought into projects in the very early stages to help develop overarching lighting solutions that become integral to the overall design. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, these services can be as simple as a one-day charrette that allows us to brain-storm lighting ideas with a project’s design team, or they may expand to include a entire conceptual presentation which may include preliminary sketches, typical layouts, budgets, and even models or mock-ups of critical lighting treatments.
Design Development
We pride ourselves on the completeness and clarity of our documentation. This begins with our Design Development drawings and specifications. Based on the needs of each project, we can tailor our services to include the level of detail required. Usually this includes coordinated lighting plans and details, lighting fixture schedules and catalog cuts, channel schedules showing control information, and complete specifications.
Construction Documentation
We continue to refine and coordinate the lighting design during the Construction Documentation phase, which culminates with an issued set of plans and specifications that strives to answer all the questions a Contractor or Lighting Supplier might have. We can also limit our services to a review of Construction Documents prepared by others to ensure the intent of the lighting design is being clearly shown.
Construction Administration
We take a pro-active approach during construction to ensure the design we documented is indeed what’s getting built. We want the contractor to know they can call us for fast, accurate information regarding any lighting question that arises. We start our Construction Administration process by walking the Contractors through each plan and detail to ensure they fully understand the critical lighting elements and we end with an “Aim & Adjust” session where we instruct the contractor where to aim each fixture, and what dimming levels are to be set. We also ensure that the Owner is fully trained on the lighting systems by the manufacturers.
